My Weight Loss Mission Statement

During my First Place for Health Bible Study this morning we were challenged to write a weight loss mission statement.  I researched a mission statement, and saw that it clearly states why a mission exists.  Then, Christian organizations often back up that mission statement with Scripture.   The question in our Bible study stated, "What type of Mission Statement could you create to avoid obstacles and stay motivated?"  So, even though most of the official mission statements I saw do not include a "obstacles" section, I know for sure that my weight loss journey does.  So, I added them right in there!  I have a feeling as I continue on this journey, I will come back and edit my mission statement, but I think this is a decent start.

My weightloss journey assists me in being obedient to God, while seeing my body become more healthy and full of energy so that I can more effectively share the gospel, use my spiritual gifts, serve my family, friends, and God’s people, and hopefully portray obedience to God, despite temptation, addiction, and the world’s way of doing things.
My weightloss journey is supported by the word of God, which reminds me of many biblical truths.  Jesus Christ came to earth and experienced the suffering and temptations of humanity. (Hebrews 2:18)  I can learn from the mistakes of those in Scripture who have misused food and their relationship with God (Psalm 78:12-22).  I can find strength and satisfaction from the word of God (Phil 4:13, Ps 73:26).  And I can be reminded that when I am weak, that Jesus will share my burden (Matthew 11:28-30) and that when there are times that I have not the strength to pray through a situation that the Holy Spirit will graciously help me out (Romans 8:26).  I will also remember that we are told in Romans 8:11 that the very power of the Holy Spirit that raise Christ from the dead, is available to me to help overcome this battle!!!

I encourage you to write your own mission statement.   Choose the scriptures that have been most meaningful to you!  I found this exercise to be so much fun.  It wasn't easy, but I am so excited to have all the Scriptures I turn to placed in one section.  I will be posting this around my house.   Maybe even in my cars (to help avoid those pesky drive-throughs)!

In other news, yesterday was beautiful!  I don't think I've mentioned it here on my blog yet, but I'm trying to train for a 2 mile walk that is one month and 2 days away!  I know that for most people that doesn't sound like a lot, but I really stress out about public walking.  I'm so pokey.  And if I try to walk faster than my body is ready for, I will literally seize up into one big giant muscle cramp.  I hate being embarrassed, as I usually cry uncontrollably.  But, I'm determined to finish this walk.  So, yesterday, I did a 1.5 mile walk.   The walk turned out to be an extra blessing as we ran into a family from our church.  They are so encouraging to David and I, because both the husband and wife are great examples of being disciplined to overcome things in our lives.  They encourage us more than they know!  However, the walk took me about an hour.  I want to be able to do 2 miles in under an hour.  I woke up this morning, and I'm sore, pretty much from head to toe, but oddly enough, I'm ready to go again!

Oh, I wanted to ask you guys, my cheerleaders to pray about something a little silly.  About 2 weeks ago, I ordered a new Walk Away the Pounds video. It came with a new stretchie band and everything.  Well, I CAN NOT find it.  My house is clean right now, and I still can't find it.  Will you pray that I find it so that is no longer a reason to be held back?  I promised myself that as soon as I hit 339 I would start adding regulrar exercise, and I haven't yet because I can not find that DVD.   This would also be really great in helping me train for the walk! So, if you can, just pray that I find it soon, that would be awesome! Thanks, friends!

I want to close with a segment of Scripture that I just love from Isaiah 55:11.
"So is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it."
The words you heard through Scripture today, you are hearing for a reason!  I am so excited that God takes the time to communicate to us through His word!
Ok, off to go live out that mission statement!  Thanks for reading!
